Thanks for explaining Noel. 

We insert/update values using PreparedStatement and setting parameter 
values with PreparedStatement#setTimestamp which takes a java.sql.Timestamp 
that is constructed using a millisecond offset from 1-1-1970. How could we 
have inserted a timestamp that has an out of bound time part? As far as I 
know there is no way to manipulate a time offset inside a timestamp filed 
in JDBC.
