I didn't know that the MAX_LOG_SIZE has no effect with MVStore. The documentation only states that "This setting has no effect for in-memory databases.". I set the MAX_LOG_SIZE to 1 MB in the testcase to ensure it gets truncated quickly, just to shorten the time/space requirement for the testcase.
I don't think that the observed behavior is a feature and not a bug ;) No space can be reclaimed by SHUTDOWN COMPACT for both PageStore and MVStore - the size of the test DB stays the same. You may also try one of these: 1) Change BLOB columns to VARCHAR in the testcase - you'll see that the DB file doesn't grow, even without any explicit compaction. The test also completes way quicker (one order of magnitude!). 2) Modify the testcase so that there is only one BLOB column in the table (just remove one from the creation statement).
