I found the root cause in the meantime: There was a view on that table. After dropping this view, I was able to drop the columns from that table.
Nevertheless this should be fixed: The DROP COLUMN statement should fail explicitly pointing on the existing view instead of crashing and leaving the temporary tables behind.
