Hi Robert,
feel free to open an RFE (http://www.opensolaris.org/bug/report.jspa). I
don't think it would be hard to implement, so fell also free to
volunteer to work on the necessary code changes.
The "nice" part about the existing possibility through the GDS template
is, that your code can run in root context and select where it makes
sense to switch to the application user. So far this has been sufficient
enough that none had the urge to request such an RFE.
