Problems that people have with Apache/mod_python using a lot of
memory, are not because of mod_python, but because of how you have
configured Apache. Specifically, you have chosen the wrong MPM and/or
not changed the default MPM configuration settings to something more
appropriate for a fat Python web application. For an explanation see:

These days mod_python simply isn't the right tool for hosting the ever
increasing size of Python web applications unless you understand
properly how Apache works and how to tune it well.
