Works for the rest of the web world, I don't get why we have these (to me) nitpicking discussions over issues many programmers solve daily with a few lines of code and never question again. Plus as Sean says my email is easier for me to remember than a username. Why can't we have a combined username/email field where both values are unique? Seems to be the trend for apps that don't use either as the single handle. Best of both worlds, no security risk in the current way.
