Well that actually sounds like the error you get when the submodule points at a commit that doesn't exist in the remote repo, but I just tested and everything works fine. I suppose it could be a problem with the version you're using, though I have absolutely no idea how to verify that or track down when it might have changed.

I can't seem to do 'git submodule update --init' for habari/system
with git 1.5.6.5 -- is there a minimum version we need to require?
