Sorry to dig this one up again.  Looks like the issue isn't completely
resolved as I'm now getting the exact same error when attempting to setup a
new multi-site site (ie user/sites/domain.tld).

I've re-opened the ticket and will try investigate further this evening or
tomorrow morning.
