Hi Michael I wasn't sure so I installed 0.5.2 clean and sure enough my comments showed up and once I had more than once page of posts 'More Posts' did the right thing.
Apologies. I think my previous shambolic attempt was using 'svn revert <managga>' which clearly isn't the same as a clean 0.5.2 installation. I should know better.
