Whilst slashdotting, I came across the following article on "Big Visible Charts" by Ron Jeffries:

It has some interesting parallels and conflicts with software project telemetry in general and the Telemetry Wall in particular. The big difference is that Jeffries seems extremely attached to informal, manually produced and maintained charts that get scrawled on a whiteboard or flip chart with colored markers. He seems to think that automatically generated charts are too much trouble for what they provide. Perhaps that's true in his development environment, but I think that Hackystat turns his argument on its head. Once you get used to the instantaneous availability of telemetry charts, his manually generated charts look like way too much trouble for what they provide!
