IMO we should segregate runtime data structures from serialization as much as possible and not complicate the main code with backwards compatibility code. We want to segregate backwards compatibility code, not embed it into every class if possible. I had the same reaction to milinds suggestions. All this OO code just seems to be complicating simple serialization and versioning problems IMO. I want this stuff to be so simple even a manager can understand it. Let's separate the file formats from the runtime classes if possible. I care much more about keeping the mainline simple then about infinite backwards compatibility.
