hmmmmm. i can now see the hadoop logs via the browser w/o having to append a ".txt" suffix. not sure if this is because i'm now accessing via a real ip vs loopback, doubtful.
regardless, the following isn't required:
append ".txt" suffix to the log files so that the the contents can be
displayed via the admin
