Occasionally a file is corrupted because a block goes missing. This may occur
if all the Datanodes containing a given block shutdown or crash, or from
defects in the Datanode or Namenode code-base. A simple diagnostic tool is
needed that can trace and analyze the historical movement of the blocks in a
given file.
