As I mentioned above, I'd prefer we use a FileStatus object that contains all 
file metadata, rather than adding a new FileSystem method per new metadata 
field added.  If an application needs more than one metadata field from a file 
it should not invoke more than one RPC, nor should FileSystem implementations 
be forced to implement a cache.  Currently HDFS does cache status internally, 
but that is fragile and will break when, e.g., modification times and lengths 
are permitted to change.
