Christophe Taton updated HADOOP-1298:
-------------------------------------

    Attachment: hadoop-dev-20070720-1633.patch.gz

Hi All,

Here is a new patch providing file ownerships and access rights infos to HDFS.
The access right checks are now processed on each INode's side and principal
infos are transmitted from NameNode downto INodes.
Almost all JUnit test cases pass except a few ones (TestDFSFinalize: still
trying to figure out why; TestSymLink: works in Eclipse but not when run with
ant).
The sticky bit behavior is still to implement but should not be a big issue.
Authentication is still not implemented and will probably be very simple at
first, assuming no will to break the system.
The INode class has been factored out as a standalone class, outside
FSDirectory. The FS layout has also changed.
I also tried to provide an accurate javadoc.

I am ready to accept any comments, criticisms or suggestions! The sooner the
better.

A question: when renaming a file, should we create the parent directories if
they don't exist?

Thanks,
Christophe T.

> I'm working on adding a permissions model to hadoop's DFS. The first step is
> this change, which associates user info with files. Following this I'll
> assoicate permissions info, then block methods based on that user info, then
> authorization of the user info.
> So, right now i've implemented adding user info to files. I'm looking for
> feedback before I clean this up and make it offical.
> I wasn't sure what release, i'm working off trunk.
