Christophe Taton updated HADOOP-1298:
-------------------------------------

    Attachment: 1298_2007-09-07g.patch

Here is a new patch that brings these changes:
- Remove the dependency to Sun's JVM that was introduced with the
{{dfs.DFSPolicy}} provider.
- The principal ID is now defined to be the Unix user ID of the process that
runs the JVM (this is also true for entities external to the NameNode such as
JSPs).
- The FsShell and the web interface now shows the owner ID and the mode of
directories.
- The FsShell include two new commands:
-- {{-chown <owner id> <path>}}
-- {{-chmod <mode> <path>}}
- the owner ID of newly created directories is set to the principal ID that
executes the creation operation; the default mode for new directories is 0755
to allow compatibility.

JUnit tests run successfully. I also tried successfully by hand on some basic
examples.

Thanks!

> I'm working on adding a permissions model to hadoop's DFS. The first step is
> this change, which associates user info with files. Following this I'll
> assoicate permissions info, then block methods based on that user info, then
> authorization of the user info.
> So, right now i've implemented adding user info to files. I'm looking for
> feedback before I clean this up and make it offical.
> I wasn't sure what release, i'm working off trunk.
