It's a sort of middle server layer such as a dam between an web servers and a Hbase storage system because i think hbase's inter-process direct communication method (Rest API, Socket) can't handle the too many connections/requests issue. (Google analytics system have a 'gathering servers' layer, too.) Please keeping a close watch on the wiki movements. B.
