I am no expert on the subject, and i never seen it happen but:
You forgot to mention what type of laptop do you have?
if its a thinkpad or something that uses its technique for hibernation, you can create 
a dos
partition that is as large as your memory (and add some 10mb just to be sure) on the 
first partition
of the disk. i.e. so it will be c:\. the bios will try to wake from hibernation and go 
to
hibernation to that partition using a file called hibernation.sys.
There are some problems that you will need to fix using some utilities that you can 
find for
thinkpad on the net that fixes, times, etc...
better use the apm thingie in combo, or if it has support for this kind of things.
