The summer is here, and it's not only us humans who feel it. Your CPU and other motherboard components might be well beyond their healthy temperatures.
In a perfect world, you computer was built OK, and the cooling issue was well handled. In reality, it goes from your computer shop saved a few shekels on an extra fan, or some fan spinning too slow because of dust and dirt. Or some other mishap. With Pentium-4 eating something like 60W, it's not to so easy to keep it cool.
The result may be sudden crashes, or even worse, permanent damage.
So, do you want to know how your processor feels, and all this from Linux? See http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=6712
Before installing anything, do check up if you happen to have the packages installed on your computer. If not, it's all in http://secure.netroedge.com/~lm78/
It took me about an an hour to get it all up and running.
And be sure to have your motherboard's spec before freaking out. On some processors, +70 degrees is just fine.
Have fun, and most important -- keep cool!
Eli
