You do not really have register them. Some people enjoy tacking the books
they read and/ or released, see where they got, who read them, who liked
them. Like watching a message in a bottle.

Another plus of using the site, is that you can know in advance which
books are going to be released, based of the release zone. For example,
you can check my bookshelf there, and know what I am about to release
tomorrow:

http://www.bookcrossing.com/mybookshelf/ladypine

You can also trace books whioch have been released already, and go look
for them. (books in the wild).

Of course, if you wish just to release books, and not register them, you
are welcome to do so, as people have been doing for quite some time before
www.bookcrossing.org.
