telnet is insecure and is deliberately not installed. Use ssh instead. You can download a free ssh client for windows as well. Search for "putty" or "ttssh". Sendmail is very hard to configure, and usually not needed. You need an MTA (such as sendmail) only if you want your computer to be a mail SERVER and to accept incoming mail via SMTP. If you just want to download mail from your ISP use fetchmail. If you DO want a mail server, I recomnmend postfix which tends to be more secure and more easily configurable.
