I'm not yet a fully pledged Ph.D.

But soon...

Orr Dunkelman, Ph.D., talk about

                        Side Channel Attacks
The Easy Way to Break Any Cryptographic Primitive

Abstract:

Side channel attacks are attacks on cryptographic (and other kinds of)
algorithms. The object of these attack is to deduce secret keying
information, while avoiding the hassle of breaking the algorithm itself.
This is done by considering information leaking from the time needed for
the computation, the power consumed by the smart card, or even by the
electromagnetic emission of the computing device.
