Well, that's not quite true when moving to 1.5. Although the language is backwards compatible, 1.5 introduced error checking where there had previously been none, which means that you may have templates that now raise errors which didn't before. These templates had errors before, and were probably being parsed wrong - now Haml lets you know about it.
