I'm not sure what you mean by "works" and "doesn't work", but neither of
those are valid Sass. Comments should be placed on their own lines, and
"/*" comments (which output to the stylesheet) don't need to be followed
by "*/":

/* Comment
:float left
.class {
/* Comment */
float: left; }
.class
// Comment
:float left
.class {
float: left; }
