I am very new to this but I did find and load the HAML theme from
here:  http://haml.lucky-dip.net

It has the gray background you are speaking of.  I also don't really
like the rendering in this theme.

I think the author would have to change the code.  I have searched
some but have not located where themes are kept in eclipse plugins.

It might be better to post something on an Eclipse developer board....
Now I have to go find that...
