Peter,

Look at the bottom of your TextMate window and you'll see a pop up
menu for tab preferences. For working with HAML choose the "Soft Tabs
(Spaces)" option. Also, make sure the file type is set to "Ruby Haml"
in the pop up menu just to the left (assuming you've installed the
HAML bundle).
