Hi, Thanks to the edubuntu mailing list, today, I "solved" problems from the last saturday : booting different type of thin-clients encountered a "black screen" problem.
Thus, until now I have been able to boot several types of thin-clients with different video cards : Intel 945, Intel 915, Via Trident Blade and i810 (I think). The "success" of today was to boot a Fujitsu mini-box (Piii 866, 128 Mb SDRAM, 10 Gb Hdd, slim CD-Rom and floppy drive) that you can currently find in the second-hand market of Vietnam at prices around 750K (no monitor, no keyboard nor mouse). This means you can setup networks (for educational use, for internet and small office use) with very ordinary thin-clients in the range of 500K VND (if you substract the current value of a 10Gb hard drive) or about 30 $US. Multilingual environment (English, French, Vietnamese) works perfect. You can also setup thin-clients boxes with new hardware (3 year warranty), using low consumption motherboards (integrated CPUs Via C3 800 Mhz or Via C7 1500 Mhz) for as low as 90 $ (without HDD). Of course you then need to invest more seriously in the server hardware. The last major problem to solve is the use of local devices. But progress is being made and the problem starts to be well cornered. regards -- M.
