Dear friends, Finally, HOSE is back <http://vietnamnet.vn/kinhte/2008/05/785765/>. Yet I am not an investor uptil now. Nevertheless, I am very interested in the closing of HOSE since 27th May.
According to what was reported yesterday here<http://www6.thanhnien.com.vn/Kinhte/2008/5/30/241669.tno><http://vnexpress.net/GL/Kinh-doanh/Chung-khoan/2008/05/3BA02C28/>, the main reason was the operating system's error (VMSOpen -an Unix OS)."*So it's software failure, not hardware one*", confirmed by HP experts in Australia. They were convinced by the fact that the backup system at HOSE was unable to replace the main one in case of the sudden failure. Surprisingly, as the explanation of a HOSE Vice general director here<http://vnexpress.net/GL/Kinh-doanh/Chung-khoan/2008/05/3BA02C28/>, the error is not related to OS's services. Moreover, beside public opinion around a HOSE trick to control the market -meaning "*no system error at all, just human fault*", there's an open question: if the system was hacked or not? I myselft has some questions: - How secure is VMSOpen? Why is it chosen to be use at HOSE? - Why did the HOSE's general director say that "no real cause found" - Will this trouble occur again if VMSOpen is replaced with OpenSolaris or BSD? -this is the 2nd time HOSE system was down. BTW, it's interesting to see that HOSE website <http://www.hsx.vn/> is now being hosted on Microsoft-IIS/6.0 server(s). -- Le Quoc Thai Software Engineer Dept. of Expert System & Softcomputing Institute of Information Technology (VAST) Tel.: (84)-04-7915063 Mobile: (84)-095-330-7791 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
