I've just found a product that looks pretty nifty: http://www.sonca.com.vn/Default.aspx?Module=ProductView&Pid=231&CId=235
Looks like this is a rip of Linux + XboxMediaCenter (XBMC) with a very similar interface according to what I saw on screenshots and several mentions of ext2/ext3 filesystems even the kernel ( http://www.sonca.com.vn/uploads/Huong%20Dan%20nap%20phan%20mem%20cho%20HDM.pdf ), meanwhile, the website doesn't have a download link to modified sources. Therefore this is a violation of GPL license under which (at least) the linux kernel and XBMC are. I wonder if someone can go ahead and demand the source for those programs. It will be a benefit for all of us to have a GPL karaoke system ;-) By the way, a fun fact: I have a friend who is an amateur DJ here. He has a Dell Mini and wanted to have Ubuntu ripped off to install XP. I convinced him to have the Ubuntu system and, in fact, his system ran without a hitch! It has successfully conducted many parties in here. Rhythmbox (which comes with ubuntu out of the box) is what he is currently using. Actually it plays very nicely with his music database on the external hard drive, when it is plugged out and plugged in. Doesn't even take any time to load the database on the external drive when it is plugged in! -- Huan Truong - xinhgai.net - U don't mess with KDE.
