I don't know why that you love Debian, not other else distros. Updating only security patches is available in almost other distros (almost, not *all*, I am not sure) As I know, you have switched to Debian after using Red Hat for years. With Red Hat, CentOS or Fedora, use can install yum-security plugin. See this instruction [1] for more information. Be sure that all Linux distributions are similar. Something is better in a distro, but some others are much better in others. I love all about Linux and FOSS. Just as my habits, I use RPM-based distros all my work and life. Just my habits! Not because they are better than others.
