I called the datacenter and told them to open all ports on the machine, so I switched the complete setup simply from port 80 to a custom port (8888) and everything worked fine. So I assume the problem is rather related to the datacenter's hardware firewall/router than the machine's kernel. I hope they can turn off the firewall completely for further testing.
