I've just started playing around with haproxy.
I've done a simple configuration for smtp where I have 3 smtp servers that
haproxy connects to.
I'm using the current defaults and added this to the config:
listen smtp :25
mode tcp
balance roundrobin
server smtp aa1.bb1.cc1.dd1:25 check
server smtp1 aa2.bb2.cc2.dd2:25 check
server smtp2 aa3.bb3.cc3.dd3:25 check
from the haproxy server, I can telnet directly to any of the underlying 3
servers without delays or any connection issues, repeatedly. I can do the
same from an outside server, connecting directly to any of the 3 servers
without delays or connection issues
However once I startup haproxy, and I attempt to connect to the proxy from
the outside server, it usually (>95% of the time) takes a few seconds for
the connect to establish and sometimes it even times out and the connection
is closed.
However, even though going from the outside server through haproxy I get
delays and timeouts, I can still go directly from the outside server to any
of the 3 servers above without any delays or timeouts. The issue is only
when going through the proxy
BTW, I'm doing this on servers that are on Amazon EC2 cloud.
