I'm running CentOS x86_64, and HaProxy from CentOS base repo (1.4.24-2.el6).
Unpacking RPM I don't see any patches, nor seds or awks in SPEC file so
I presume it's clean 1.4.24 version.
I suggest you post your configuration (what you can share, most importantly
your timeout values) and the exact haproxy release?
I will strip my config later and post it.
