My impression, without having spend a lot of time with FreeBSD is
that both perform very well. Linux probably has more TCP features
and performance tweaks, because Google pushes for it hard. FreeBSD
performs better with async disk IO afaik (but you need that on a
backend server only, not on the haproxy frontend).
My suggestion would be to stick with what you know best. Both
operating systems will perform very well when configured
properly.
Use what you know best.
