We use the spec file every time we install a new version of HAProxy. I wrote a script that downloads the latest version, builds an RPM, and uploads into Foreman/Katello so that clients can update. We strongly prefer RPMs for updating as opposed to a tarball install. The last version installed was 1.9.8, the spec file worked perfectly and seemed up to date. If this is a permanent change, we will likely just stop at 1.9.8, as it has caused no problems. Too bad.
