Not an expert in this ... but I see in "haproxy -vv" output for HAProxy version 2.8.0-8ee9a5-30 2023/06/22 that the QUIC multiplexer only applies to frontend, not backend. Could be that the option was put in the code so it's already there when/if QUIC backend support is added.
