I had thought that we could limit PRIVATE/
PUBLIC var names to ten chars at runtime for
compatibility. PRIVATE/PUBLIC is not something
users want to use for new code,
Why? I agree that PRIVATE/PUBLIC should not be used at all but,
pragmatically speaking, they are very powerful tools sometimes.
