We already have our forum linked in. Linking the dev list
may not be a very good idea there as dev-list isn't the
right place to give classic user support.
Okay, then let's point the potential new users to the Harbour User
Mail list, or simply show the link:
http://www.harbour-project.org/mailing.html
Because currently, the "Support Harbour" section on the Harbour's
SourceForge page shows this:
Best Way To Get Help
Unfortunately, this project hasn't indicated the best way to get help.
Contact the project's administrators to find out how to get help.
I've set it to also point to our forums. Although there was
6 support links a bit lower on the page (one of them this one).
I don't want to make this dev list the support forum, just
for the simple reason this is the dev list. It's not ideal
that core developers have to explain even the most basic concepts
all over again.
We may link in our user list, but it's pretty much dead, so
I see no point ATM.
I'd advise against distracting users to visit various other
forums (Massimo!) until we make a clear decision on what we
want to do. This way it just creates confusion.
Please post ideas how to make our forum more active, or
what other direction to take. If we chose the forum and since
this is a free project we need to build a community where
users can help each other with some central members who can
post more complicated issues here on the dev list.
Pls also gather opinions or votes which should we do of these:
1) Use our forums for Harbour support
2) Use our user mailing list for Harbour support
3) Use 3rd party forums for Harbour support (like MiniGUI)
My vote is 1). But don't have much against 3) either, as
a 3rd party developers hosted and active forum is definitely
better than no or dead forum. Best would be to have our own
forum, but this needs volunteers.
Brgds,
Viktor
