Bogdan Alexandru Chiochiu using a Sangean ATS-606A portable rx with +/- 75meters of wire attached to the telescopic antenna
Made beetwen 9:30 PM and 10:30 PM EsT (IN MONTREAL - PierrefondsEst, QUEBEC, CANADA) (0240 and 0323 UTC): 4845 unID EE, usually this channel have Radio Mauritanie. 0236 UTC Poor-fair level, pretty distorted, SIO 322; maybe a local image ? 4885 Brasil, Rdio Difusora Ancreana, Rio Blanco - 0245 UTC+ - presumed w/ ftboll game. Pretty fair signal strenght, but with looots of noises, assumedly from power-lines, SIO 312 4905 unID Jammer 4915 KHRP SIO 323 4985 Radio Brasil Central; presumed, weak-poor carrer; too weak for audio on my rx 5000 WWV Time Signal (Co) 0158 (UTC), SIO 444 5025 Radio Rebelde 0206 (UTC) - extremely weak 5030 Jammer way over Radio Marti ! 0209 (UTC) 5040 0213 (UTC), unID 5050 unID domestic Rel. - very strong; SIO 455 (0220 UTC) 5055 RFO Cayenne (pres.) (0219 and 0221-0222-23) Fair signal strenght with relativly few fadings, but QRM from 5050 made IDing impossible 5070 WWCR 0216 UTC; Excellent reception; SIO 455 5085 all times when chacked; EE 5130 0203 (UTC) unID, spanish coneversation beetwen the announcer and the reporter (who was on the phone). Poor, but sounded a bit strong for a flea-powered out-of-band peruvian on my Sangean-ATS-606A The radio is very average for 60 meters tropical band reception. It's far more selectif on this band, than my Realistic DX-351 wich I usually use for shortwave DXing, but it's sensitivity is slightly lower tough. I could hear Rdio Difusora Ancreana 4885 with a signal level of 4 on the Realistic and 3 on the Sangean to give you an idea, but due to the interferences it was hard to really say. Maybe the signal was the same, but the Realistic DX-351 has a better sound ? Actually I found the sound of my new Sangean rx. to be too metallic and quite Low-Fi. The Realistic DX-351 is quite good, the Sanyo MCD-S830 AM/FM portable has excellent sound ! It is difficult to hear weak tropical band signals with both the receivers and while I doubt I will log a station from the Pacific, eastern Africa or deep-South America on 60 meters using this limited equipment, I'm keep trying, however ! I haven't heard Ecos del Torbes 4980 since 3-4 months or so; did they are running lower-power ? I have heard a report from a British DX'er who heard them 2 weeks ago, but... In any event, this should make Radio Brasil Central 4985 fairly easy for me. I've heard them the past week for the first time and I've tentativly received the past night too, albeit too weak for readable audio. I have heard a couple of ZYs on 25 meters (Radio Gazeta comes to mind) and I would like to know if there is any DX'er here who has a list of Brazilians currently active on 25m. They seem to be around every late afternoon, but as I don't have the WRTH it is pretty hard for me to log them. Condx on MW were very marginal, with the only consistent signal being from Radio Vision Cristiana 530 wich peaked to excellent peak at 0323 on the Sanyo receiver as I finished the shortwave DX session. RCN Barranquilia 760 was in from about 0123-0133 for a good 3 minutes, but with a fairly weak signal. After the 60 mb DX session, at 0230 the channel had a weak and nulled WJR just to give you an idea of how poor the conditions were. RCR-750 was unheard, the only Venezuelan audible was presumably Union Radio 640 over Guadeloupe, in jumble with WNNZ at 0047, then faded out 2 minutes later; WNNZ had it's channel to it's self during the rest of the evening, with nearly no traces from Radio Guadeloupe et al. Domestic DX was poor as well, around 0013 CKEC 1320 was very barely audible with rock music, throught an excellent short-skip signal from ethnic CJMR who was playing Middle-East music (from India or from the Arab countries, didn't stay on the frequency for more than 2 minutes though; I listened 4 or 5 songs of a freestyle CD I burned 3 days ago, afterwards I gone to bed). I hope the solar activity will decrease, since a lot of targets are missing due to the sunspot activities.
