CKZU : signals fading badly ... Even in Seattle, where CKZU comes in by groundwave -- it fades very badly. The transmitter is a 1 kw CBC-SRC built transmitter; it should be called the CBU Prissmaster 1k!
I wish Canada had a proper domestic SW service: http://cbc.am/cbc.htm ====================================== Subject: [HCDX] Can a Solar Flare Cause This? / Logs ====================================== Usually in the morning around 1400 I check out CKZU Vancouver Canada on 6160, usually a good strong signal with some weaker interference from VOA on the same frequency. The other morning I heard something I've never heard before in my years of dxing. To best describe what I heard imagine having two radios one playing VOA the other CKZU. Now imagine listening to CKZU only and slowly turning the volume down until the station is completely quiet then slowly turning the volume up on the other radio and now hearing only a strong VOA and CKZU GONE!. I believe it happened at 1600 on saturday during a "changeover" but CKZU is still on at this hour. The whole process took about 5 seconds. The strangest thing was that there was NO atmospheric noise involved! It was completely quiet! ??? ---[Start Commercial]--------------------- World Radio TV Handbook 2004 is coming out!
