Five Japanese radio stations to form digital radio venture: (27 July 05) Tokyo FM Broadcasting Company and four other Japanese commercial radio stations said that they will jointly set up a company to operate terrestrial digital radio broadcasts due to start in Tokyo and Osaka next year, Kyodo News has reported. The five stations will apply for a broadcasting licence in January and the joint firm will begin trial broadcasts with a preliminary licence expected to be issued by the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in mid-March. Upon acquisition of a formal licence, possibly in April, the joint company will begin full-scale services and expand them to other major cities in 2008. The five stations will collectively hold a 55 percent share in the venture with the remainder being held by other companies including radio stations in cities such as Osaka and Nagoya. (Abu Website)
