Just happened to read your message at 0155, but checking the frequencies you mention yielded only weak carriers, with nothing loud enough for any clues. This using directional antenna - log periodic and 40m yagis. As an aside, and not necessarily relevant at 0200, but conditions were quite decent earlier ( just after 2000 utc, 2 pm local time) as I was hearing 40m SSB signals from UN7TX, UR9IDX and others, coming directly over the N pole. The "S" beacon near 7039 khz, presumably located near Archangel was also noted, and the endless loop of CP17 de L9CC in Morse, tx site possibly in China, was noted near 7065 khz. This daytime DX on 40 is to be expected in the short days of December and January, but I am always amazed that it happens quite regularly much later in the season with so much sunlight all around.

On the west coast they're virtually never heard due to the poor state of their transmitters and much too low choice of frequencies. I used to hear them from time to time on 11960 in our local evenings, but they haven't used that frequency in our evenings for years.
