Malaysia, 7295, RTM, 1102-1115 Tuned in a couple of minutes late to hear an ID,
but at 1102 notice a male in English comments which was probably news. Plenty
of
interference here, besides the station on 7296 KHz, there's a lot of ARO
activity popping
up. Malaysia continued with the comments for awhile then at about 1110
presented
music. The signal didn't improve from a poor. To hear the audio I had to
switch from the
WR G305e/pd to the NRD535D (Chuck Bolland, August 27, 2007)
Clewiston, Florida
WinRadio G305e/pd & NRD535D
The WR G305e/pd has terrific sensitivity for the Spectrum Analyzer, but is
useless almost for pulling out some audio for weaker signals.Using the NRD535D
for the above logging, the quality of the signal was fair compared to threshold
to nil with the WR G305e/pd. If I had to describe the WR G305e/pd with
only one word, I'd call it the "Tease". You can easily see the signal trace
of any station on the Spectrum Analyzer, but forget about hearing anything
from a weak station. The Audio just isn't there. Should I expect more from
the G305? I think I should since the cost of the receiver was substantial.

Russia, 7125, Russian International Radio, 0050-0110 Noted a program
of Russian language news and music. At about 0053, heard an ID as
"R I R" obviously standing for Russian International Radio. On the hour,
another ID as, "...kompaniya? Golos Rossii" followed with news.
Signal was good. (Chuck Bolland August 28, 2007)

60 MB Survey - August 25, 2007 - 0254-1230 UTC

QTH: Memphis, TN USA (35.1068,-89.8980), Sunrise: 1127 UTC
Receiver: RFSpace SDR-14
Antenna: Wellbrook ALA-100 Loop (60/240?, 3m x 9m, 1m elevation)
Accessories: GAP HearIT DSP, Datong FL3, Ratzlaff 2.25 mHz High Pass Filter
** AUSTRALIA. 4910.00 ABC Northern Territory, Tennant Creek, 25 AUG
0640-0832* - carrier rising above noise floor at 0640, threshold audio
beginning 0730 and fair signal by 0815 with live sports broadcast.
Abrupt 0832* sign-off. (Jordan-TN)
** BOLIVIA. 4796.35 (t) R Mallku, Uyuni, 25 AUG 0954 - Transmitter
turned on at 0954. Threshold audio first noted by 1030 and peaking from
1040 until 1050, which matches sunrise at transmitter enhancement.
Andean music then monologue in lang by woman. Poor with strong slop when
Buena Nuevas was playing music, even in LSB, and moderate CODAR.
(Jordan-TN)
4865.01v (p) R Logos, Santa Cruz, 25 AUG 0254-1200 - Suspected R Logos
here during the entire recording drifting +/- 25 Hz, only peaking to
audio levels after 1000 and best from 1020-1040, matching 1026 UTC Santa
Cruz sunrise. Religious sounding vocals, no announcements heard, and
unable to determine language. Very poor due to beeping UTE QRM on both
sidebands. Carrier faded into noise floor shortly after 1200. (Jordan-TN)
4875.08 (p) R La Cruz del Sur, La Paz, 25 AUG *0955 - Transmitter
turned on at 0955, audio started fading up at 1020, peaking from
1029-1035 with just threshold audio and then fading fast. Talk by man,
echo efx, 90% certain Spanish language. Peak enhancement definitely fits
Bolivia, LA SW Logs list them on 4876v and last reported 12/06.
(Jordan-TN)
** BRAZIL. 4754.87 R Inmaculada Concep?ao, Campo Grande MS, 25 Aug
0254-1100 - Catholic religious programming, best signal 0940-1000 UTC.
Carrier below noise floor by at 1100. (Jordan-TN)
4785.06 (t) R Caiari, Porto Velho RO, 25 Aug *0840 - Transmitter turned
on at 0840, weak Portuguese talk heard by 0915. Peaking by 1020
transmitter sunrise. No ID noted. Poor with medium CODAR. (Jordan-TN)
4804.98 R Dif do Amazonas, Manaus AM, 25 AUG *0858 - Transmitter turned
on at 0858, initially poor but steadily improving towards transmitter
sunrise. Nice peak from 1000 to 1010 before slowly fading, with ID then
announcements by man. Moderate CODAR QRM made listening difficult.
(Jordan-TN)
4845.23 R Cultura Ondas Tropicais, Manaus AM, 25 AUG 1007 - Transmitter
turned on at 1007 and silent until brief sign-on announcement by man as
"Radio Cultura" into contemporary vocals. Good signal with occasional
UTE QRM on both sidebands, then fading after 1015. (Jordan-TN)
4885.01 R Clube do Par?, Belem PA, 25 AUG 0254-1140 - Great signal all
night
giving CODAR a run for its money. Music, interviews, IDs. Slowing fading
after Belem sunrise, carrier faded below noise floor at 1140. (Jordan-TN)
4894.89v (p) R IPB Novo Tempo, Campo Grande PR, 25 AUG 0254 - Carrier
here all night, slowly drifting downward (25 Hz by 0800). Signal fading
up from 0940 with a peak perfectly matching Campo Grande's 0953 UTC
sunrise, but never enough for any usable audio. Carrier faded below
noise floor at 1102. (Jordan-TN)
4894.99 (p) R Bar?, Manaus AM, 25 AUG 0254-0359* - Very presumed,
carrier only and emitting +/- 60 Hz spurs (+ harmonics) until
transmitter left the air at 0359*. No sign of this s/on in the
morning.(Jordan-TN)
4905.11 R Araguaina, Aragua?na TO, 25 AUG 0903 - Transmitter switched
on at 0903 but weak, no audio heard until 0914 as signal as rapidly
peaked with easy contemporary Christian vocal, brief announcement by man
in Portuguese then back to vocals. Great 2 minute peak exactly at
Aragua?na 0917 sunrise before rapidly fading back down until carrier
dropped below noise floor at 1020. High static levels. (Jordan-TN)
4914.96 R Difusora, Macap? AC, 25 AUG 0230-1120 - Noted here all night
with music format, fair signal amidst heavy CODAR until Goi?nia sign-on
and fading after down after Macap? sunrise. Signal disappeared below
noise floor by 1120. (Jordan-TN)
4915.02 R CBN Anhanguera, Goi?nia GO, 25 AUG *0904-1100 - Sign-on
announcements by man, mentions of Brasil and Goi?nia into program of
easy vocals then religious monologue by man starting at 0930. Generally
dominant over R. Difusora, which wasn't an issue anyway in USB. Ever
present CODAR. Faded below noise floor by 1100. (Jordan-TN)
** CHINA. 4750.00 (t) PBS Qinghai, Xining, 25 AUG 0918-1230 - noted
carrier rising above noise floor at 0918. Signal peaking by 1130 and
holding steady until 1230 tune-out, but dominated by Indonesia
throughout. No pronounced 1153 sunset at transmitter enhancement.
Threshold talk by man and woman in lang, Chinese vocals. Minimal
CODAR.(Jordan-TN)
** DJIBOUTI. 4780.00 R.Djibouti, 25 Aug *0304 - s/on directly into
Koran recitations, sermon in Arabic at 0310. S9 signal with static,
starting to slowly fade by 0315.(Jordan-TN)
** ECUADOR. 4814.98 (t) R El Buen Pastor, Saraguro 0254-0309 and
0855-1145 - Tentatively the one here in Spanish with religious program,
sign off announcement at 0300* then silence until the transmitter left
the air at 0309. Transmitter turned back on at 0855. Much improved by
1030 with US religious program giving Atlanta, GA P.O. Box at 1058.
Probable ID at 1100 but could catch no details. Mainly poor due to
static levels, no ID or location info heard. LA SW Logs show this one
last report Dec 04, but am pretty confident this is them due to format
and propagation. (Jordan-TN)
4909.216 R Chaskis del Norte, Otavalo, 25 AUG 0245-0531* - Spanish talks
by male announcer, lots of indigenous Andean music, panpipes, mentions
of Ecuador but no ID heard. Mainly very poor but better after 0510. Must
be evenings only as no sign of them signing back on in the morning.
(Jordan-TN)
** GABON. 4777.00 R Gabon, Moyabi 25 Aug *0458-0759* - Huge S9+20
signal, French with s/on announcements by woman, news at 0500 and pop
vocals at 0510. Carrier at noise floor at 0759* (Jordan-TN)
** GUATEMALA. 4779.96, R Coat?n, San Sebastian, 25 AUG *1030-1230 -
National anthem, s/on ID and announcement, vocals (Jordan-TN)
4799.77 R Buenas Nuevas, San Sebasti?n, 25 AUG 0254-0424* and 0859-1230
- S/off at 0424* then transmitter turned back on early at 0859 and dead
air until 0924 then non-stop instrumentals until 1000, then dead air
until transmitter left air at 1002. Back at 1015 with instrumentals
until 1024 sign-on announcement then back to musica. Still there at 1230
with good signal. CODAR throughout. (Jordan-TN)
** INDIA. 4760.00 (p) AIR Port Blair, Brookshabad, 25 AUG 1040 -
carrier noted rising above noise floor at 1040 and peaking around 1200,
but never strong enough to produce audio. Presumed based on peak
coinciding around Port Blair sunset. (Jordan-TN)
4820.00 (p) AIR Kolkata, Calcutta, 25 AUG 1222-1230 - Presumed the one
here turning the transmitter turned on at 1222. About equal level to and
7 Hz below tentative PBS Xizang. No audio noted before 1230 end of
recording. (Jordan-TN)
4879.99 (p) AIR Lucknow, 25 AUG 1205-1230 - presumed the one here
turning transmitter on at 1205. No audio noted by 1230 end of recording.
(Jordan-TN)
** INDONESIA. 4749.96 RRI Makassar, 25 AUG 0828-1230 - rising above
noise floor at 0828 and improving rapidly. Bits of audio first noticed
around 0915, better by 0940 with pop vocals. Announcement by man at
0955 then Islamic evening call to prayer, announcement by woman at 1002,
then return to Koranic recitations at 1004 during excellent sunset at
transmitter enhancement. Much weaker but still usable at 1230 tune-out.
Best in LSB to avoid presumed PBS Qinghai carrier, very slight CODAR
QRM. (Jordan-TN)
4789.98 RRI Fak-Fak, Fak Fak, 25 AUG 0805 - carrier noted rising above
noise floor at 0805 and steadily rising amidst strong CODAR. Koranic
recitations noted from 0900. Much better after 1130 local sunrise in
Memphis, peaking at S5 with vocals, some C&W sounding, woman announcer,
and CODAR much weaker. (Jordan-TN)
4869.93 (t) RRI Wamena, Wamena, 25 AUG 0720 - Same signal as noted on
15 Aug, but fading up earlier at 0720 this morning. Threshold audio
noted by 0830 but still too weak to be very usable. Unlike other RRI

Looks like my presumed R La Cruz del Sur 4875.08 log is R Estambul on a
NF. Please update my logging:
** BOLIVIA. NF 4875.08 (t) R Estambul, Guayamerin, 25 AUG *0955 -
Transmitter turned on at 0955, audio started fading up at 1020, peaking
from 1029-1035 with just threshold audio and then fading fast. Talk by
man, echo efx, 90% certain Spanish language. Peak definitely fits
Bolivian sunrise enhancement. Thanks to Rogildo F. Aragao via Dario
Monferini for reporting Estambul on this NF on Aug 26 w/ 0312 s/off. I
went back to the SDR-14 recording and verified that there was no sign of
this in the 0254-0400 UTC period. Perhaps they switched to this NF
Saturday morning? I originally reported this as presumed R La Cruz del
Sur, La Paz.(Jordan-TN)
Many thanks to Rogildo F. Aragao (Radioescuta yg) and Dario Monferini
(PlayDX yg).

Per Dario Monferini (PlayDX), "This is now been confirmed is Radio Globo
Manaus (Ex Radio Bar?)." A quick web search turned up the following hit
from DXing the Finnish Way dx blog, http://finndxer.wordpress.com/,
dated Aug 22:
R?dio Bar?, Manaus, Brazil, on 4895 SW and 1440 MW, is now calling
itself R?dio Globo Manaus. At the same time the station has dropped the
religious broadcasts of ?Igreja Pentecostal Deus ? Amor?. Now its focus
is on own programming alongside R?dio Globo network programs. (Paulo
Roberto e Souza via @-tividade DX)
Please update my log appropriately:
4894.99 (p) R Globo Manaus (Ex Radio Bar?), Manaus AM, 25 AUG 0254-0359*
- Very presumed, carrier only and emitting +/- 60 Hz spurs (+ harmonics)
until transmitter left the air at 0359*. No sign of this s/on in the
morning. Thanks to Paulo Roberto e Souza via @-tividade DX for reporting
this change and to Dario Monferini via PlayDX for alerting me. (Jordan-TN)
Any further comments, updates or corrections to my August 25 logs are
much appreciated.

Hi, folks. Just returned from a 4 day visit to Masset, and was able to DX for
3 mornings (ie Sat - Mon). The first morning was rather disappointing as I had
erected a 1000' West BOG which was dead in the morning, so I had to use my
permanent N/S 450' Beverage only. Went to track down the problem only to find
that the BNC connector wasn't attached to the matching transformer! Ugggh!!!.
The next morning was better, of course, with the 2 Beverages, but nothing very
spectacular. This morning was the best with a really good opening on LW to
Russia (just about all the Russian FE LW transmitters heard quite well), and at
dawn, some Filipinos really started to come in, as did some Aussies.
Interestingly, the best antenna for these turned out to be a short normal
Beverage aimed to the W/SW which I erected last night. Here are a few
highlights:
..................Walt Salmaniw, BC
By the way, I used a WinRadio 313e and an AOR 7030+, with a NRD-535D as a back
up.
999 PHILIPPINES DYSS Super Radyo, Aug 27 1349 - Wow, just checked this
frequency to hear multiple IDs for 'Super Radio' in Tagalog. 'Media Awards
2007' Radio GMA Incorporated and Cebu mentioned. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)
1026 PHILIPPINES DZAR Soshine Radio, Aug 27 1323 - I'm hearing English
religious discussion with an accent which sounds Filipino to me. Fades up to
fair level, but then back in the mud. Filipinos are occasionally heard in
Masset, so I'm not sure who else this could be (although 2 others are listed,
but this fits best with the religious content). 999 heard a few minutes
earlier is also likely a Filipino station. Later: Very nicely fading up at
13:30 to good levels, cochannel oriental speaker. Reading letters at 13:40,
mentioning Typhoon Dodo (?). Mentions of NCR (?National Capital Region,
Manila?). Yes! Philipines mentioned. Old Israel....must be a settlement in
the Philippines. Best heard on my shorter European Beverage erected only last
night. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)
1062 PHILIPPINES DZEC Eagle Broadcasting Corp., Aug 27 13:59 - Nice clear ID
just before 13:59 as 'Dee Zee E C, Eagle Broadcasting' in Filipino. Good
reception. An excellent opening today to this part of Asia! Still going
strong at 14:11 with Spanish Eyes. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)
1161 CHINA , Aug 26 1258 - Nice reception with EZL music until 12:59, and then
more traditional oriental music. No obvious time pips at 13:00, though. May
have faded down at the critical moment! Seemingly in CC, but with at least one
other co-channel. Tentative!. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)
1575 THAILAND VOA, Aug 26 1151 - Strong S9 signal with English commentary by
American accented male about President Putin of Russia. I'm suspecting AFN
Japan as VOA Thailand (heard an hour earlier) is listed as in Burmese at this
time. Ah, at 11:59, 'This is the Voice of America signing off', so must have
been VOA after all. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)
4052.5 GUATEMALA Radio Verdad, Aug 27 0435 - Decent S6 to S7 signal with too
much summer static crashes marring an otherwise decent program of religious
music. Take away the crashes, and I think I'd be able to easily follow the
broadcast. As it is, it's too difficult to tell even the language. Further
listening reveals American accented preacher in English. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)
4775 SWAZILAND TWR, Aug 27 0451 - English programming in the clear, and free of
static for the most part at good levels, although S meter is only at S5.
Insight for Tomorrow program. Strongest African on the air right now. Much
stronger than the 90 meter Meyerton transmissions. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)
4930 BOTSWANA VOA, Aug 27 0453 - Another good signal, but seems to suffer more
from static crashes than does Swaziland. Go figure! English science program.
Reading S7 to S8. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)
6030 CANADA CFVP, Aug 27 0504 - Classic Radio 1060 ID with surprisingly good
signal (S9) followed by Gordon Lightfoot's Sundown. Some summer static.
(Salmaniw, Masset, BC)
6045 RUSSIA Voice of Russia World Service, Aug 25 1402 - English news about
Polish opposition to US interceptor rockets. S7 signal with minimal adjacent
splatter. Good overall. Transmitter in Vladivostok. // 7165 excellent (also
Vlad.), 9745 poor/fair. Program is to Asia. (Salmaniw, Masset, BC)
