** AFGHANISTAN [non]. R. Solh, via Rampisham UK, 15265, as always exactly the
same music, but best reception in some time, and wish I had been recording, Jan
28 from 1415 to 1459* (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ALBANIA. R. Tirana, 13640, Jan 28 at 1526 open carrier was already on,
1527:45 IS, 1530 opening English to NAm with full English transmission
schedule, into news and features. Better reception than usual, but a higher
modulation level would have helped (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. Firedrake from the DentroChinese Jamming Command, in // on 9930 and
9450, Jan 28 at 1544. In these cases I could hear weaker Chinese underneath on
both, which is seldom the case. 9930 is Sound of Hope via KWHR, and 9450 is
Sound of Hope via Taiwan. Not sure if SOH is // from the two sites but doubt
it. Also could detect a SAH with SOH on 9930 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. VOI, gone again from 9526, Jan 28 at 1456 check, and also on Jan
27. A pity, since that is by far best heard here, rarely on 11785 which is
blocked much of the time by WHRI (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. Monday Jan 28 is another of those rare days when XEPPM, 6185 leaves
its transmitter on in the daytime after nominal 1200* Tune-in at 1551 to ID in
passing as R. Educaci?n accompanying a report from Oaxaca, and more talk
programming past 1600 when there was an ID for XEEP 1060 only. S9 +18 with the
only comparable signal at this late hour on 49m being WBOH 5920, which was only
S9 +13 but sounds louder due to overmodulation. XEPPM has a nice clean easily
readable signal, and I wonder how long it will stay on; still going at 1610
tune-out. I also wonder how far into El Norte it can penetrate during the
daytime. Hans Johnson was hearing it at 1657 via a DX Tuner in Pennsylvania;
when I rechecked at 1727, nothing heard.

If they can do this with 10 kW, how nice it would be if they had 50 kW and
deliberately broadcast in the daytime when there is zero co- or
adjacent-channel interference! BTW, this has happened previously on Mondays,
but not sure if that is their doing, or just when I have happened to notice it.

BTW2, XEXQ 6045 has been missing again for the last few weeks, and so has XEYU
9599.3v in the last few days. BTW3, note that XERTA`s new frequency 4800 could
produce a second harmonic interfering with XEYU at local DF range; fortunately,
XERTA is rather weak (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Another check of the weekly Monday morning net of the Texas DOT, Jan
28 at 1430 on 5195-SSB: Rollcall of same cities as always, NCS noting that
Lufkin had antenna problems and would not check in, nor would Pharr per advance
e-mail notice. Again the only YL-sounding voices came from Brownwood and
Wichita Falls. Interrupted for a minute in the middle by ringtones at NCS, so
they all QRXed, and as a result were not finished until 1436, a minute later
than usual. NCS always has the strongest signal by far, which is, I guess, why
or because he is the NCS in Austin (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [non]. Perpetual collision between R. Farda via Morocco, and CVC Miami
via Chile on 15410. As pointed out by Wolfgang B?schel, CVC is now
off-frequency. Jan 28 at 1500 could hear a low het making the co-channel QRM
even more annoying, as Portuguese and Farsi took turns dominating. Used to be
zero-beat, as I don`t recall even hearing a SAH between them (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VENEZUELA [non]. Monitored RNV CI once again Sat Jan 26 on 11680 via Cuba
from opening in Spanish at *1500. Gives e-mail address now as
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Shortly into English with names of people on staff, and program summary,
seemingly for the whole hour, tho not all of it really in English, starting
with ``Informative Micro``, then about a writer, traditional song, Bol?var
Around the World, short bio, ``In Contact with the Diexistas``, etc., ``with a
special compromise`` not having a clue that compromiso does not mean the same
as compromise in English. Someone lauded RNV for its excellent Spanish diction,
and I agree, but their English is horrible.

1504, ``Informative Short News``, not the name given a few minutes earlier:
Venezuelan ambassador to USA denounces USA to the OAS over false accusations
about the Bolivarian revolution.

1511-1520 abruptly back into Spanish with speech of said ambassador, with hum,
about the war on drugs, accusing the US` DEA of operating inside Venezuela, and
even arresting people without authority, violating V sovereignty.

1522, Spanish, STILL giving old long-outdated transmission schedule starting
with 11 am in San Francisco on 13740. And not including the broadcast we are
listening to.

1523, ``Gavil?n``(?), traditional song, introduced in English

1527, contact info with Apartado 3979, Caracas 10-10, RBV. Then, Efem?rides for
25 de enero, so this was really yesterday`s program.

Seems they are really going the bilingual route, which is fine for those of us
who speak both languages, mixing them up, but surely a put-off for those
understanding only one of them. But is there any excuse today for being
monolingual?

1531, time for me to tune in CBC Halifax for O`Reilly and the Art of
Persuasion, a Saturday-morning must (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** WESTERN SAHARA [non]. RNRASD, 6300, Sat Jan 26 at 2324 with music in
uncertain language, but talk after 2332 definitely in Spanish (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

CFFX DX Test Final Report

Wow! What a good test this turned out to be. In spite of marginal
conditions, the last few hours of CFFX on 960 kHz made it to both the east
and west coast and even to Scotland. Only the southwest and the deep south
appear to have been left out. A look at the CFFX daytime pattern explains
why - a pretty significant null toward the south.
As with the KKMO test, the CFFX test was heard in Europe. Special
congratulations this time go to Paul Crankshaw in Troon Scotland, who caught
a couple Morse code IDs. The test also made it to the North American west
coast.
Without further ado, here is the lengthy list of those who logged the
swan song of CFFX-AM:

Konnie Rychalsky - Southwestern CT
Dave Lang - Waterford CT
Curtis Sadowski - Paxton IL
Tom Jasinski - Shorewood IL
Frank Zane - Downers Grove (Chicago) IL
Mark Connelly - Billerica MA
Joe Miller - Southeastern MI
George Sherman - MN
Paul LaFreniere - Grand Marais MN
Joe Wozniak - St. Louis MO
Dave Hockfelder - Albany NY
Stephen Howe - Albany NY
Ken Chatterton - Mannville NY
Jerry Bond - Rochester NY
Scott Fybush - Suffern NY
Joe Perge - Newark OH
Patrick Martin - Seaside OR
Brett Saylor - State College PA
Steve Francis - Alcoa, TN
Jim Pogue, Memphis TN
Kevin Satya - Bainbridge Island WA
Bill Dvorak - Madison WI
Tim Noonan - Oak Creek WI
Nigel Pimblett - Dunmore AB
Nick Hall-Patch, Victoria BC
Walter Salmaniw - Victoria BC
Saul Chernos - Burnt River ON
Jeff Falconer - Clinton ON
Robert Ross - London ON
Mark Gerwlivch - Markham ON
Mike Brooker - Toronto ON
Niel Wolfish - Toronto ON
Barry McLarnon - Ottawa ON
Paul Crankshaw - Troon, Scotland
Steve Whitt - Scotland

Sometimes the Internet is a key ally. Frank Schuettig in Bali,
Indonesia tuned in this test remotely via a DX Tuner in Illinois. The
international aspect our tests are taking on is great, and we encourage more
of our European compatriots to give future tests a try.
Even if you weren't able to hear the test, we send a big thank-you to
those who tried and continue to support our efforts, including: Bill
Block-AZ, Frank Aden-ID, Bob Foxworth-FL, Tim Hall-CA, Steve Ratzlaff-OR,
Martin Foltz-CA, Fred Nordquist-SC, Patrick Griffith-CO, J.D. Stephens-AL,
Bruce Winkelman-OK, Bruce Portzer-WA, Barry Davies in the UK and Bjarne
Mjelde in Berlevag (Arctic Norway) who heard CFAC and KMA but not CFFX.
After a very brief dry spell, we've added a couple of more tests to the
calendar, plus several more are still very much in the works. Remember to
keep checking the DXTESTS.INFO Web site frequently and listen to the BTC
Podcasts for news and late-breaking developments.
Finally, if you can reach out to one or more stations in your area and
encourage them to consider doing a DX test, please do so. Many hands . and
all that.

Peru, 4834.88, Radio Maranon, 0035-0130, At tune in, noted various persons
in Spanish Language comments. This continued until 0048 which at that time
Huaynos music and other types presented. After the 0100 hour, signal drops
to threshold but still audible. (Chuck Bolland, Janaury 29, 2008)

Russia, 4995.22, RWM, Moscow, 0139-0145 Noted CW ID for a minute as "RWM"
repeated over and over until 0140. At that time ticks every second with a
double ticks after 10 seconds. On the minute a long tone. Signal was fair.
(Chuck Bolland, January 29, 2008)

India, 5010, All India Radio, Thirovananthapuram, 0148-0201 Noted male and
female persons in conversation. At 0152, a different male in (Hindu?)

was fair. (Chuck Bolland, Janaury 29, 2008)

India, 4840, All India Radio, Mumbai, 0210-0230 Noted a couple of
individuals in Hindu Language comments until 0218. At that time bridge

Back in the 60s, I heard a Radio Moscow broadcast on 1554 khz and sent a
report and go a QSL card. I always thought it was the Soviet Union, but
I was told today in checking back that the transmitter was in Lithuania.
Of course in those days Radio Moscow never put the tx location on the
cards. Was the tx location Lithuania? Any help would be appreciated.
