KUWAIT 15110 Radio Kuwait in English on 15110 seems three hours on air in
our mornings at 0500-0800 UT. R Kuwait noted today Febr 27th, took over of
FM 99.7 MHz local radio station. Weak signal at 0515 UT, but gets
increasingly stronger S=6 at 0535 UT, and at 0555 UT similar strong as
adjacent Samara-RUS in Tatar on 15105 kHz approx. S=8-9 signal. Before
Kuwait got stronger I used small 2.6 kHz filter or used even Eton E1 SYNC
function in USB mode. Kuwait's transmission is aimed in direction of 100degr
towards Indian subcontinent, and remaining backward side lobe into Europe
[315degr] is not as strong as the Kuwait 15495 kHz Arabic channel.

At 0540 UT noted on fair level, English political commentary. S=8 at 0546
UT, shortly after nice lively melodic pop music singer till 0600 UT. After a
piece of soul music at 0600 UT started at 06.01:30 UT with nx in English.
Items: Invasion of Turkish Army in Northern Iraq, Butto's dead, Iranian
Non-Atomic program, Kenya uproar, BIH Banja Luka uproar on Kosovo
independence separation, USA Clinton-Obama. Weather forecast for Kuwait:
increasingly rain the whole day, 12 to 23 cC temperature. At 0604 UT S=9, ID
local FM 99.7 MHz station, popmusic.

Underneath of Kuwait signal I noted another tiny Chinese language station
actually, but couldn't find any registration entry nowhere at this time of
the day.

Adjacent: at 0525 UT 15100 Islambad-PAK S=5-6, 15105 Samara-RUS in Tatar?
S=7-8, 15120 CRI Beijing 500 kW powerhouse in Chinese.

Other logs in 0515-0540 UT slot:
IRAN 15320.00 IRIB Sirjan in Spanish, fair at 0535 UT.

ISRAEL 15785.14 ISR Army radio Galei Zahal in Hebrew, strong phone in
program at 0542 UT.

SAUDI ARABIA 15285.00 BSKSA Riyadh in Swahili, fair signal at 0530 UT.

THAILAND/CHINA 15545 IBB RFA Tibetan from Udorn Thani + Chinese Firedrake.
S=8

MARIANAS TINIAN 15665 Three choices at 0540 UT. strongest CRI Kashi
powerhouse in Russian towards Moscow capital and further into Europe. Also
IBB RFA Chinese + mainland Firedrake music.

UNID 15225 tiny signal at 0528 UT, seemingly Russian?

Bolivia, 5996.30E, Radio Loyola, 1015-1030 With a male in Steady Spanish
comments.
At 1019, a female commences with comments. I am hearing place names such as
"Peru",
and "Lima" and I am wondering what is the significance of this because the
program seems
to be a news program with on site commentary? Signal degrades from a fair to
poor at 1030.
(Chuck Bolland, February 27, 2008)

Indonesia, 4605.50E, RRI Serui, 1035-1045 Noted two males in Indonesian
Language
comments. Occasionally someone calls in on the telephone to be interviewed
and to
comment. No music heard during the period. Signal was fair. (Chuck
Bolland,
February 27, 2008)

Indonesia, 4750, RRI Makassar, 1045-1100 Initially heard a male in
Indonesian Language
comments. Judging from the tone and nuances of the comments, the male is
presenting an
informational discourse, possibly political. Music presented at 1058. At
1100 ID given by male. Signal was good except for the CODAR interference,
which at this point in my DX experiences, is being blanked out by my brain.
A Cerebral noise blanker. (Chuck Bolland, February 27, 2008)

Hi All

BBC WS still noted using DRM on 6195 from Kvitsoy at 06:30 UTC,
Feb 27, presumably to Europe.

Have they forgotten to switch this off? Or doesn't DRM
count as "shortwave"?

** DUCIE ISLAND. 15m certainly has been working best for me to hear the VP6DX
pedition. Previously ran across it on 21305-USB, but Feb 25 at 2219 it was on
21295-USB, saying ``listen 310`` meaning duplex, they were listening for calls
on 21310. Put another receiver there, but only heard one or two weak stations,
as most of NAm was in skip zone. I wonder why hams don`t verbally say ``QSX``
much, the proper term for this? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GABON. Africa Num?ro Un, 17630, VG signal lately, better than much else on
16m, Feb 27 at 1510 promoting later programs including at 2110-2200 TU,
Flashback, and this was partly in hippity-hoppity English. Time for another
check of 19160 for possible harmonic of 9580 ? no, nothing (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. VOI back again on 9526! But bound to be temporary as usual. Feb
26 at 1445 with western-style pop music, lyrix maybe in Indonesian, since this
is the Indonesian language hour. 1458 to brief talk, probably final warta
berita headlines, 1500 TS, gamelan IS, 1501 NA by YL soprano to 1505+ and
carrier still on at tune-out. Usual VG signal when they manage to come up on
this frequency instead of 11785v.

VOI, another day still on 9526, Feb 27 with more Indonesian than Western music
in final hourquarter, usual headlines, sign-off and NA, hum and open carrier to
1507+* (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGST)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. Shiokaze/Sea Breeze, 5985 via JSR Japan, Wed Feb 27 at
1412 was in English, listing Japanese women missing since 1965, with their
birthdates, weight, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Sporadic E from the night before was still (or again) around, Feb 26
at 1429 check when WWCR was inbooming on 15825, unlike the normal
barely-audible-in-F2-skipzone situation. So strong that the hum on the signal
was quite annoying, as well as crosstalk underneath from PMS // 13845. Their
transmitters and antennas are just too close together to isolate properly, it
seems (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VENEZUELA [non]. Quick check of RNV via Cuba, 11680, Feb 27 at 1517 rewarded
me immediately with their years-out-of-date schedule announcement starting with
San Francisco at 11 am on 13740. Yawn (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11995, Feb 26 at 1435-1440+ with continuous instrumental music,
sounded very repetitive and may have been a loop. Fill for lost program feed or
test? Still on at 1458, but off at 1459 without announcement. Listed here is
CVC Darwin during this semihour since Feb 22 at 3 degree azimuth; also on
13725, and at 1500-1530 on 11650 and 13725 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST) ###
