** CHINA. Firedrake check the morning of August 3: at 1244, poor on 15795,
15465 and 15255, frequencies where I don`t usually hear it.
Per Aoki, the victims:
15795: All India Radio, Bangalore, in Chinese
15465: R. Taiwan International, in Chinese
15255: VOA, Tinang in Chinese
Checked the far out-of-band ranges, and at 1253 found FD only on 14420, as also
Aug 2. Good signal stronger than the 15 MHz ones above. Aoki now has 14420 as
SOH, jammed.
FD also on 13750, good signal at 1254, open carrier pause 1300-1305:30 when
resumed. This is not in Aoki, nor a likely target, but probably a new frequency
for SOH. IIRC, Sound of Hope used this channel long ago. If this goes past
1400, will clash with Cuba.
At 1328, FD poor on 17565, probably today`s V. of Tibet, Uzbekistan variable
frequency. And 17705 also poor, vs AIR Bangalore Chinese, which ends at 1315
per schedule, but FD runs until 1330. No sign of FD on or around 17200 as on
Aug 2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** LAOS [non]. Hmong Lao Radio, via WHRI 11785, Sunday August 3 at 1302 check,
suffering from a lot of QRM: Indonesian het, Firedrake and VOA (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SPAIN [non]. 15170, REE relay, Aug 3 at 1247 with folk music, big signal but
modulation really deficient: low level, and to hear the higher audio
frequencies in the music, crowd whistles, you had to tune to one sideband or
the other (no, not using narrow receiver filter), and that added distortion.
Then drumming, surprisingly speaker in English saying ``let`s dance!``, and a
reel (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A [non]. On 9865, August 3 at 1231, word-by-word, less than dictation
speed rendering in English of story about Pharaoh and Moses. Must be WYFR
programming, but whence? Pet-Kam, DV Russia (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

WORLD OF RADIO 1419 SUMMARY:
*VOA quietly terminated Russian broadcasts July 26; airtime may be
taken over by R. Liberty from August 1
*``A certain lack of strategic thinking`` by the Bush administration,
says freemediaonline.org
*WYFR much stronger on 21670 than other 13m frequencies, indicating
it`s beamed northwest, contrary to schedules
*WYFR abruptly replaced 7780 with 7730 due to interference complaint
*WEWN off the air since July 28 for two weeks of maintenance
*WRNO tests not heard since about July 23; planned to start
programming August 1. Check 15590 in daytime, 7505 at night
*TV Mart? as a government station supposedly not under FCC
jurisdiction, but FCC authorizes it to continue using channel 13 from
Florida Keys until January 24, 2009, and with ``technical parameters
at variance from those previously authorized``, whatever that means
*Rudy Espinal, once popular SW host on Radio Clar?n, now announces on
FM station Ra?ces, webcasts: http://www.radioraices.org.do
*Only one report of FM de M?rida, Yucat?n, lately, July 25 at 1200-
1230 in Florida on 6104.84
*R. Nevada, Murillo, Tolima, Colombia, pirate station on 1510 heard in
Bogot? on second harmonnic 3020 around 2300
*Unidentified Peruvian on 5059.2 is La Voz de las Huarinjas,
Huancabamba, until 0215 and at 1320, ex-6819v
*A Peruvian called R. Andina on 6936.3 until 0304; not sure if the one
in Huancabamba, ex-6673, or Huancayo, ex-4995, or another station
*R. Mara??n, Ja?n, Per?, 4835v, barely audible abroad or presumed off;
but monitored earlier in Ecuador with very strong signal. May be
using NVIS vertical-incidence antenna, close-in `umbrella` coverage
*R. Voz Mission?ria, Brasil confirms it is deliberately using 5870;
heard at 0245 in Texas, presumably, aside WHRI 5875
*Two Brazilians on 6105, but R. Cultura Filad?lfia is off, allowing
the other one, R. Can??o Nova to be heard in Argentina at 2101
*unID on 3450v heard with programming pointing to Bolivia
*unID on 2280 is second harmonic of R. Guaran?, 1140 in Argentina for
Paraguayans
*LRA36, Antarctica, 15475.96, surfaced briefly in Iowa at 2006-2020
July 22
*By shortwave, AM, FM, satellite and internet, this is World of Radio
1419, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA, or woradio at yahoo.com See
our website for much more, http://www.worldofradio.org
*CFRX, Toronto, about ready to reactivate on 6070; but will collide
again with Chile all night. If close enough to Toronto, you may hear
it in daytime without interference
*CBC British Columbia starts Chinese news service,
http://www.cbc.ca/bc/chinesenews with RCI people who are turned into
translators from journalists as RCI downgrade continues
*CHWO 740 Toronto is now CFZM under new owner; adult standards format
continues but adding talk show and old time radio. Info and QSL via
http://www.odxa.on.ca/cfzm/
*Recommended BBC frequencies for North America, none beamed here any
more
*New unlisted DRM station from C?te d`Azur on 25770-25775-25780, heard
in Austria, AGORA DRM TEST; not to be confused with another DRM in
France on same frequencies by TDF in Rennes
*Iran`s Italian language service is called Radio Italia, rather
presumptuously, and has changed a frequency at 0530-0630, 9770 ex-
11670, which are via Lithuania
*Dutch pirate station Radio Lowland plans marathon broadcast Friday
August 1 from 0700 to 2400; or hopefully later for North American
reception, on 6310
*Strong African music on 5050 heard in Sicily July 22 around 2300;
next day earlier, also Russian music on 5060. Pirate or big station
testing?
*Morocco no longer heard on 15340, or 15345 clearing frequency for
Argentina to Europe M-F 1800-2200
*V. of Nigeria, 9690, heard once in June, once in July around 1400 in
Oklahoma; strange propagation, long or short path or something else?
*Chad reactivated on 4905 morning and evening; still on 7120 daytime?
*Buea, Cameroon confirmed reactivated on 6005, obits at 1455 heard in
Nigeria, blocked by BBC after 1700
*R. Cairo in the clear to Europe on 11550, thanks to temporary absence
of WEWN
*R. Singapore International closed down after July 31, but SW relays
of domestic services should remain audible in Europe around 2300, on
6000, 6150, 7235, 7275
*RRI Makassar, Indonesia, missing from 4750 but heard again in Florida
until 1000
*July 22 was last good day for V. of Indonesia in English at 1300 on
9526; missing since then, and believed on 11784.9 instead, blocked by
Firedrake and VOA; also by Hmong Lao Radio, WHRI Sunday and Saturday
*Democratic Voice of Burma website http://www.dvb.no/ hit by
distributed denial of service of attack, blamed on Myanmar government
*V. of Strait, Fuzhou, China, 4940, in Chinese but with English IDs
heard at 1300, 1325
*CRI Esperanto service heard in 1300 hour on 11650, about what else?
Olympix
*The Cross, Micronesia, still awaiting antenna parts to resume 4755
*Scott Base and McMurdo, Antarctica monitored in New Zealand on 5785,
10639, 9106, but not on 5078, 5080, 5140
*Propagation outlook from Boulder, July 29 ###
