In case you've missed our earlier message, remember to enter our

You could win the classic pirate Radio Hauraki CD 'Fresh Pacific
Wind' by answering a simple question about radio in Fiji.......

We'll also be back shortly with another new competition, again
celebrating 50 years of statehood for Hawaii...and with a great prize!

Easter 2009: Fresh Pacific Wind Competition
Win a CD from the Radio Heritage Foundation
___________________________________________

Just released in the UK, Australia and New Zealand is the new pirate
radio movie 'The Boat That Rocked', a comedy about the British pirate
radio scene in the early 1960's. It's coming your way soon too.

It's produced by New Zealander Tim Bevan, who was just 8 years old
when Radio Hauraki burst onto the Kiwi airwaves in 1966....and to
celebrate the movie and it's Kiwi connection, we've got a copy of the
original CD 'A Fresh Pacific Wind - Radio Hauraki 1966-1970' as the
prize in our Easter 2009 competition!

To enter this new competition simply answer this question:

What was the callsign of the Fiji Broadcasting Company station that
began broadcasting in 1935?

You'll find the answer at www.radioheritage.net/story6.asp on the
global website of the Radio Heritage Foundation:
www.radioheritage.net.

Email your answer to [email protected] with "Fresh Pacific Wind"
in the subject line and to reach us no later than midnight Sunday,
April 19 2009.

The competition is open worldwide, the judges decision is final, no
correspondence will be entered into and by entering the competition
you agree to us entering your email address onto our mailing list.

Argentina, 6060, Radio Argentina al Exterior, Tent, 0930-0945, Not sure
of this one. Noted a female in Spanish language during the majority of the
time. Every once in awhile, a male briefly comments. The noise is very
bad.
Consequently, significant details are lacking. At 0936 the signal started
to
fade into the noise and by 0945 it was gone. Signal faded back to a
threshold level after the hour. (Chuck Bolland, April 16, 2009)

Brazil, 6150, Radio Record, 0945-1000, Noted a program of popular music
and Portuguese comments from a male. He was joined by a female at 0950.
Signal was poor at tune in, but by 0950 it seemed to be fading in just a
little to
a fair level. (Chuck Bolland, April 16, 2009)

Bolivia, 6155.28, Radio Fides, 0952-1000, Noted a female in Spanish
language comments. He mentions Bolivia often in her comments. However,
Bolivia wasn't the only place named, she mentions "Cuba", "Havana" and
"Puerto
Rico". At 0955 a canned ID presented but not copied. This followed by a
male in comments, which was probably news. Heard "Obama" mentioned.
Canned Ads before the hour. Signal was poor to threshold. (Chuck Bolland,

Another example of the fallibility of using local relays of an international

Hi John,

Very true, but the result would still have been the same had Radio Australia
followed the examples of other broadcasters and shut down shortwave, in this
case, it would have boosted Radio New Zealand International's listener
figures.

I heard on this morning's RNZ local news, foreign reporters will again be
admitted into Fiji, RNZI will be sending in a reporter over the weekend, I
imagine that this could be a step along the way to having the local RA FM
station reinstated.

Peru, 6019.40, Radio Victoria, 2319-2330 Setting on this freq prior to 2319
with
only the carrier audible, at 2319 the audio popped in with a female in
Spanish
comments. She's shortly joined by a male. This continues to 2330 and
beyond.
Signal was poor. (Chuck Bolland, April 16, 2009)

South Africa, 3320, Radio Sonder Grense,(pres), 2331-2345, Noted a person
in
comments. Could distinguish the language at this time since the signal was
just
fading in to threshold. The signal did not improve over the next few
minutes.

Sao Tome, 4960, Affia Darufur,(relay), 0310-0330, Found a reference for
this in the WRTH under USA. During this period, Arabic is listed as the
language. Infact, noted a male in Arabic with a female sometimes joining
in. Signal was poor with crashes. Checked 9845 for a parallel, but
no signal heard there. (Chuck Bolland, April 17, 2009)
