Subject: [HCDX] BBC Russian site relaunched
Message-ID: <[email protected]>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8

The website for the BBC's Russian service, BBCRussian.com, has become the
latest of the 33 World Service language sites to relaunch.

The page is now over 20 percent wider, giving more space - a full 214 extra
pixels, in fact - to showcase the very best of the BBC's Russian language
output.

In particular, a new Rolling News index has been added - which allows users to
see the latest news stories as they are published onto the site - a first for
the BBC language services.

"We are publishing six to eight short stories an hour to reflect the news as it
comes in," explains Dmitry Shishkin, editor of BBCRussian.com.

"This is another feature very popular in the Russian market where the audience
clearly needs it. We tried to boost the video and interactive presence as well
as keeping a very significant amount of news stories and analysis on the front
page."

Perfect platform

As a result, there is now more video available than ever within a single click
on the site. This will soon be followed by new indexes for all of the Russian
radio programmes.

"We always distinguished ourselves as being the only news site in Russian which
gives the user the ultimate multiplatform experience. When a big story breaks
the user reading our text story is also able to watch an embedded video, a
picture gallery, to read and/or contribute to a forum on the issue, to listen
to the radio discussion, and to comment on a blog," says Dmitri.

"The new site is a perfect platform for this task."

It follows the BBC World Service sites for English, Vietnamese, Spanish,
Persian, Urdu and Portuguese.

"It was always our great disadvantage that the old site looked really different
in comparison to the competitors' sites," Dmitry adds.

"We simply looked unusual and rather dated, the site was too compact in Russian
terms - the market there is used to very long front pages. So we wanted to
address that when we discussed the redesign."

** CHINA. Firedrake, April 21 at 1325: on 8400 and weaker 9000. Firedrake,
which is the name for the raucous music-only jamming, not any other audio
source of Chinese jamming, is still being heard regularly here in the mornings:
April 22 at 1307 on 8400, much stronger than on 9000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. The latest from Mixing Product Central on 13 MHz: April 21 at 1414,
Fidel on 13720 mixing with CRI English, i.e. leapfrog 13760 over 13740.
Meanwhile from the other site, the usual leapfrogs of 13680 and 13780 over each
other to land on 13580 and 13880 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EQUATORIAL GUINEA. 15190 at 1416 April 21 with screaming preacher in
English, fortunately undermodulated but still plenty annoying, and who would
voluntarily listen to that for content? Doesn`t matter, pays your money, maybe
gets your transmission to the heathen masses of Africa (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. VOI, 9525, for the third Tuesday in a row featuring Banjarmasin,
in another historical W&M lexure, April 21 at 1341. Earlier in the hour,
reports about the elexion (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TAIWAN. Checked RTI 9735 again April 21, at 1322 in Japanese, and this time
without the spurs on 9730 and 9740 that were there the day before. But they`ll
be back, no doubt.

RTI 9735 spurs were back on April 22 at 1305, bothering CRI on 9730 and BBC on
9740 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [non]. 11930, Tue April 21 at 1328 talk in S Asian language I could
not quite place, mixed with music past 1330. No jamming yet from Cuba; R. Mart?
starts at 1400 with carrier on several minutes earlier. Is PWBR `2009` any
help? Of course not! In fact I seldom bother to check it any more since A-09
began; once in a while it would come up with an answer in B-08, but even so one
always had to compare it to up-to-date online resources for confirmation.

Aoki shows this is TWR via Novosibirsk, RUSSIA, due south in a variety S Asian
languages, many of them obscure, such as this one, Dogri, M-F at 1315-1330,
while on Sat & Sun it`s Hindi at 1315-1400. No broadcasts are accounted for
after 1330 on Tuesdays, nor in EiBi.

Here`s a bit about the Dogri language, not that they are itching to become
Protestants, but there is allegedly a translation of the New Testament:
http://languages.iloveindia.com/dogri.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** WESTERN SAHARA [non]. La Voz de la RASD, 6300 via Algeria, not heard here in
some time; seems it does not sign on until a few minutes after 0600; April 22
at 0627 it was coming in well with music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9233 approx., SSB net in American English. Only one station was
occasionally readable, mentioning knots, and ``loading fish``, 0555-0600+ April
22. 9+ MHz propagation was better than usual (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15396.7-USB, approximately, 2-way Spanish intruder April 21 at
1336-1339+. Pretty lively continuous conversation this time, but couldn`t
really copy details, presumably poachers or narcotraffickers (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST) ###

Russia, 5920, Radio Rossii, Petropavlovsk-K., 0815-0850,
Noted a series of programs in the Russian Language by both
male and female persons. At 0825 noted an ID by a male
as, "...Radio Rossii, programma ...". This followed by more
comments from a female. Rossii remains the dominant station
on this freq with a good signal until 0842. At that time WBOH's
signal begins to fade in taking over the freq by 0845. Prior to that,
WBOH had been in the background. So the rest of the time the signals
became a audio "seesaw" so to speak. Rossii went from good to fair
while WBOH went from poor to good and I just went! (Chuck Bolland,
April 22, 2009)

Russia, 5940, Radio Rossii, 0850-0900, Noted a male in Russian language
comments at tune in. Tried to compare 5940 and 5920, but Rossii no
longer audible on 5920 at 0854. The male on 5940 continues to talk
getting closer to the hour. Signal was fair but with splatter. (Chuck
Bolland, April 22, 2009)

Walter,

I recorded a few minutes of Radio Rossii this morning. There are 6
recordings in mp3.
Each recording is only 20 to 30 seconds each. There's plenty of ID's which
I can't
understand. Maybe you can? Drop me a note with translations if you can
hear
them well enough. Go to http://www.orchidcitysoftware.com/IMAGE60.HTML

Thanks

Hi Chuck,
quite typical TOH stuff on Radio Rossii. End of a radio play; some program ads;
news; some program ad again. Btw, your email provider blocks me (sends me a
failure notice) so this has to go via the list.

1:
1st half: list of radioplay staff
"prodolzhEnie slushajte zAvtra v to zhe vrEmya": to be continued tomorrow at
the same time
"Teatr Radio Rossii": the theater of Radio Rossii
after that program ad: "Programa oblakA" - "Clouds", apparently a program for
prison inmates - "dla zaklyuchOnnykh" (yes, checked it on their website - it's
about the human rights of prisoners, so at least the radio staff cares, what
about the prison staff?)
at the end: "slushajte kazhdyj vtornik.." - listen each Tuesday on the waves of
Radio Rossii

2:
"RadioRus.ru, Radio Rossii" ( the dot . is pronounced tOchka; this is their
website)
rest hard to understand, "listen to Radio Rossii" etc.

3:
sounds like another program ad

4:
first words some end of sentence, "Radio Rossii"

5:
"MaskOvskoye vrEmya - 13 (trinAdzat') chasOf"
"Moscow time - 13 o'clock." (1pm, that would make it 0900 UTC)
VyEsti - the news.
InformatsiOnnaya progrAmma Radio Rossii. - RR's information program.
ZdrAstvuytye... - Hello.

6:
some promo again, hard to understand

Colegas.

Todas
as escutas est?o gravadas no blog

. No blog
existem diversas grava??es dessa escuta em hor?rios diferenciados.
