The last minutes of Radio Sweden's shortwave from Hörby have been covered by
IRIB. The Iranians have already switched to the winter schedule, marring the
farewell from Sweden. Hörby: SINPO 42432, Sirjan: 53433.

Regular political programming in Swedish (upcoming US elections etc). At 2125
they played some sad song, 2128 an instrumental tune, 21:29:00 silence, not
even a final IS. I didn't even hear the plug being pulled with the ranting from
Teheran on top.

The Swedish mediumwave 1179 is still on at 2147, with a popmusic / call-in show
on top of the channel right now, competing with the stations from Saar and
Spain. But in Swedish, not in English as scheduled. In the last five minutes
before local midnight the woman speaker gave what might have been a farewell
prayer, or something else that sounded solemn. Then they played a a Cranberry
song and then (alas, in a fading minimum) a little bit of hiphop that seemed to
contain the line "goodbye", but not sure if it even was what Sverige played,
with so many stations c-c. At local midnight (2200 UTC) Sölvesborg was gone,
leaving Spain, Romania and Saar messing around with each other.

So there is only one tiny chance left to hear Scandinavia on shortwave:
Scandinavian Weekend Radio from Finland. According to their website
http://www.swradio.net/index2.htm , they will do two more broadcasts in 2010 on
5-6 November and 3-4 December, then go into winter break, to be back on 6-7 May
2011.

In memoriam Hörby,
