female in some kind of lesson, possibly language? Male says something and
the female repeats in a slower pace like she is spelling a word. They
continue

At long last* Sunday February 27th 2011 *the final & 3rd FRS 30th
Anniversary broadcast will take place. We will complete the *FRS Anthology *
!
Next Sunday* 27th February* we will feature the period *1998- 2010*. Mind
you: we will kick off at already 07.52 UTC=08.52 CET.
In contrast with our previous mail, a change has taken place. 6085 will be
on for the complete 6 hours 08-14 UTC. No alternative 48 mb freq will be
used.
March 6th could see a repeat of part of the shows lasting 2 or 3 hours.
*We are understandably curious to receive your letters and mails. That's
very important for us and that's the only way in which you can show your
respect and interest.

confirmed on lofi webcast. Having lost the `DX Block` timing a few weeks ago,
apparently it was off WWCR for a few weeks; Rumen Pankov heard it last week at
this time, right after 1700 WORLD OF RADIO. DXPL still does not appear anywhere
on the WWCR program schedule, instead `Calvary Hour` [sic] at 1730-1800 Sats,
but presumably DXPL will be added to the March update in a few days.
Like everything else, will shift one UT hour earlier from March 13, due to
silly DST, i.e. starting March 19 at 1630. So in effect, we have a new ``DX

** SPAIN [non]. 17850, as expected, RFI is buried by REE via COSTA RICA,
Saturday Feb 26 at 1640. REE is playing contemporary classical music // direct
15385, 17595, 21570, 21610, with RFI just barely audible underneath. RFI is
daily 16-17 in French from Issoudun, while REE starts 17850 at 1600 on
Saturdays, 1500 on Sundays, 1800 M-F. With plenty of free frequencies on 16m,
e.g. 17860, why does RFI subject itself to this? Yes, targets are very
different, REE to NAm, RFI to Af, but that`s no excuse (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX

** SRI LANKA [and non]. 11905, SLBC, have been wanting to catch this service
others have been reporting: Feb 26 at 1605, S Asian music over CCI, good with
lite flutter, then romantic crooner, in Hindi? And other pop music. 1615 YL
announcement sounds like Hindi. 1625 she abruptly switches to English but I
don`t realize at first since the accent still sounds like Hindi intonation. Is
interviewing guest, ``thanks for being here today``, 1626 OM replies in English
about a sillyballgame involving ``runs`` so probably cricket. Got the
impression SL is doing well vs Pakistan.
Still conversing when cut off the air rudely at 1628:05* uncovering weak
co-channel station which itself went off at 1629:33*. That would be Poland in
Ukrainian via Woofferton, which most of the time is blocking SL which starts at
1530. If this were not a weekend, we would then be hearing on 11905, VOA to
Sudan, or is it Ethiopia, via Wertachtal, Germany, which is M-F only from 1630

17780, Feb 26 at 1532, sports(?) commentary in African language, over crowd
yelling, whistling and singing, but thank animist gods, no vuvuzelas. Good
signal, same stuff an hour+ later at 1639. Wonder what it`s really about. This
is a Saturday-only Hausa broadcast from BBCWS at 1430-1700, 500 kW, 169 degrees

air-traffic-control YL contacting various planes, most of which were inaudible,

which I have never encountered on any of the other three frequencies; do they

shown by EiBi or Aoki on any 15 MHz channels.
I assumed WBCQ would join Brother Scare`s Sabbath Service as usual, but tuned
on before 1500. Maybe they did, but at next check at 1551, WBCQ was off 15420,
audiblizing weak BBC in Saturday sports, still with het. BBC is via Cyprus at

While BBC is canceling its Mandarin broadcasts in April 2011 and Voice of
America (VOA) its Mandarin and Cantonese broadcasts in October 2011, Sound of
Hope Radio (SOH) Network announced that they will be expanding short-wave
broadcasting to China to meet the demands of its Chinese audience.
Based in San Francisco, California SOH has broadcast to China two hours every
day since 2004. SOH's broadcasts have increased every year in its six years of
operation, with its recent addition of 4.5 hours bringing its average daily
shortwave broadcasting hours to 20.
Network president Allen Zeng indicated that SOH has long wished to expand its
shortwave broadcasting. However, "If BBC and Voice of America are canceling
their Mandarin broadcasts to China, we will be losing two important companions.
Our Chinese audience may feel let down by the loss of their freedom of
information. Therefore, I feel that we now shoulder an even greater
responsibility."
According to China Internet Network Information Center's recent statistics,
China has 450 million Internet users and 730 million adult non-Internet users.
Of the 450 million Internet users, 60 percent are under the age of 30, most are
young people or urban residents. Most of the remaining population, which
consists of citizens over the age of 50, residents of rural or small and
mid-size urban areas, and a mobile population of up to 230 million people
including migrant workers, either do not have access to or do not know how to
use the Internet; they are the ideal audience for shortwave broadcasts.
According to CCP statistics, there are a total of 500 million radios in Chinese
households and many can receive short or medium wave radio. Foreign shortwave
broadcast has long been the source of reliable information for Chinese people,
and was the only way they received true information during the June 4 crackdown
of the democracy movement in 1989. Due to China's size even China National
Radio uses over 80 shortwave frequencies to cover the nation.
Allen Zeng said that SOH is currently increasing its shortwave broadcast to
China instead of decreasing them. "China is still controlled by a totalitarian
regime and the Chinese people's rights are not being protected by the press.
They are truly in need of freedom of information, yet the Internet can only be
accessed by one-third of the people.
"During recent events in Egypt the totalitarian government was able to censor
the Internet, indicating that the Internet is not always reliable. For us a
variety of news sources is necessary."
Zeng says that SOH has long systemically invested in shortwave broadcast to
China, and is fourth in China broadcasting radio stations after VOA, Radio Free
Asia and Radio Taiwan International. It is also the largest private broadcaster
to China, creating and broadcasting over 20 thousand radio programs each year.
Zeng said that SOH will do its best to shoulder the responsibility of bringing
uncensored information to the people of China, adding that, "The international
community should understand the needs of the Chinese people and invest
extensively in China's free access to information, including the Internet,

A major 6.3 earthquake struck Christchurch on the South Island of New
Zealand on February 22 2011 with nearly 400 killed or missing and
most of the CBD of this city of 350,000 ruined.
A complete list of AM and FM radio services in Christchurch with
updates on their current status is now available.
Many studios are located in the CBD, are damaged and no longer
accessible and several locally based stations [such as Plains FM] are
no longer broadcasting.
Main transmitter sites are operational, but several local low power
FM stations in the eastern suburbs of Aranui, South New Brighton and
Sumner have all sustained damage and are silent.
Other local LPFM stations such as Power Hits 87.7 FM have been
broadcasting emergency accommodation messages for the St
Albans/Mairehau community and offers to help stations have come from
other local stations as far away as Wellington and Queenstown.
Volcano Radio 88.5 FM in Lyttelton returned to the air shortly after
the quake and has been broadcasting community messages and
information since.

Radio Difusora Macap? (B) on 4915kHz really seems to be silent or on a very
reduced schedule. I have not heard it since about Christmas 2010, then in
January someone mentioned it to be on the air but last week the frequency
was empty when I was checking it daily in the evening around 2100UTC and in
the morning around 0500-0700UTC. Radio Daqu? is the second station on the
frequency but its operation hours are limited.

Hello everybody!
A new shortwave radio station with the Name "Radio6150" starts - big
surprise- on 6150 kHz. Frequency seem already be aproved by the
"Bundesnetzagentur", but additional Mesurements have to be done before using
more power.
6150 khz is testing now with 5 Watts (!) only, but wants to broadcast up to
6 kW. The play a short testloop in three languages, english, dutch and
german.
This is now the fourth frequency used by private - more or less - low
powered stations: 5980 khz (Hamburger Lokalradio), 6005 kHz (Radio 700),
6085 khz (Radio Gloria / diverse Stations, right now Free Radio Service
Holland) and now 6150 kHz.
Lets wait and see how shortwave develops in germany. :-)
